No one should doubt your ambition
At this point you have already run the gauntlet. Accepted to undergraduate and completed a degree. Accepted to medical school, of which only 5% are indeed accepted for current applicants. Then you made it through graduate school, completed a residency. And maybe even a fellowship. No one can question your ambition.
But are you where you want to be? If you say yes, you are amongst the minority. Most find themselves in situations they never dreamed they would be in. How did you get here? How can you get out?
First and foremost we take care of people. This costs us a great deal. It costs time, energy and especially emotion. To take good care of others means you have to take care of yourself.
This is the time I think you need to look inside. Take the time to invest in yourself. Many CME courses are signed up for and much of the research shows this does not actual improve the patient care we provide. If you are in a better place, you will be better prepared to care for them. Take that ambition that got you here and focus on you in the same way. This will take some of your time. It will take some of your energy and emotion, but I promise you it will give you more of all of those in the end.
An earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment. Ambition. What you should be striving for is a better you.
